Objective

Summary

Algorithm

As a final product, hotspots are characterized with the following attributes:
Name Description
fecha_cdmx Date and time when the hotspot was detected, adjusted to Mexico City time UTC-6 (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS).
fecha_utc Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) when the hotspot was detected (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS).
lat Latitude of the hotspot, measured in degrees (epsg: 4326).
lon Longitude of the hotspot, also measured in degrees (epsg: 4326).
satelite Name of the satellite from which the hotspot was detected.
bt_c07 Brightness temperature of channel 7 (3.9μm), measured in Kelvin [K].
bt_c14 Brightness temperature of channel 14 (11.2μm), measured in Kelvin [K].
dif_c7-c14 Difference in brightness temperature between channel 7 and channel 14.
pais Country where the hotspot is located.
estado State of the country where the hotspot is located (Mexico only).
municipio Municipality where the hotspot is located (Mexico only).
frp Fire Radiative Power (FRP) of the hotspot, measured in megawatts [MW].
scan Pixel size in the east-west (scan) direction in kilometers [km].
track Pixel size in the north-south (track) direction in kilometers [km].
veg_s7_co Vegetation type at the hotspot site, based on the INEGI Land Use and Vegetation layer, series VII, modified by CONABIO.
land_cover Land cover type at the hotspot location, from the MODIS/Terra+Aqua Land Cover Type Yearly L3 Global product (MCD12Q1 v061). International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) classification scheme.
pendiente Terrain slope at the hotspot location.
anp Presence of the hotspot within a protected natural area (PNA).
nubosidad Sky condition over the hotspot area at the time of detection, classified as cloudy or clear.
pc_estable Indicates whether the hotspot is considered stable: yes or no.
tipo_pce Type of hotspot, only if stable (oil refinery, petrochemical plant, volcano, etc.).
nombre_pce Name assigned to the stable hotspot, if applicable.

Hotspots

Viewer

The viewer presents an initial display with the most recent hotspots, distributed over the Google Maps satellite base map whose background can be changed with the intuitive layer menu (upper right corner), where vector information (hotspots, states and natural areas), images (GOES-19/ABI and VIIRS) and base maps can be selected.

It also has a search menu (upper left corner) to make queries regarding detection dates and download results in Geojson, CSV and Shapefile formats; learn about GOES-19/ABI image information; analyze hotspot information.
